Gauloises Cigarettes

A Huge Range at Your Disposal:
Produced by the Imperial Tobacco Company, Gauloises cigarettes were first introduced in France in 1910. Traditional cigarettes from Gauloises included dark tobacco harvested from Turkey and Syria and were short and wide, generally unfiltered. It was this unique combination of tobacco that lent a distinct and strong aroma to Gauloises cigarettes. For over a century, a Gauloises cigarette has been known for its strong and unfiltered aroma. After almost four decades of being launched, the brand released a filtered one. In the mid 1980s, the company released a typical American-style filtered tobacco cigarette called Gauloises Blondes. The brand also sells low tar cigarettes in green, red and white/golden packets while the traditional unfiltered cigarettes are sold under the name Gauloises Caporal. While Gauloises first introduced it as a separate brand, it is now owned and operated by the Imperial Tobacco Company. In 2008, the company took over Altadis and began producing Gauloises cigarettes under their brand, becoming one of the biggest tobacco companies in the world.

The Gauloises image in history and popular culture:
Being a French product, smoking a Gauloises cigarette was considered a patriotic gesture and was often associated with French values. In George Orwells 1933 novel, he mentioned smoking Gauloises Bleu cigarettes, as did French author Henri Charriere. The brand name was often linked to influential and high-status personalities in the creative and intellectual world like Pablo Picasso, Jean Paul Sartre, Jean Baudrillard, Albert Camus and Jim Morrison. Gauloises was also the sponsor for a number of Formula One sporting events in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Other notable personalities that used or mentioned Gauloises cigarettes included John Lennon, Roman Polanskis films The Tenant and the hit TV series Gossip Girl. The brand is also used by former guitarist for Red Hot Chili Peppers John Frusciante. Who can forget that the legendary character of John McClane essayed by Bruce Willis also smoked Gauloises cigarettes!
